Emmanuelle Zysman in Paris: Soulful and sophisticated jewelry.

Emmanuelle Zysman in Paris: Soulful and sophisticated jewelry.

The whimsical and sophisticated world of Parisian jewelry designer Emmanuelle Zysman feels like a haven from the adjacent bustling Pigalle neighborhood. Emmanuelle Zysman uses gold, gold-plated sterling silver and semi-precious or precious stones (diamonds.) Check out the simple, yet original and soulful design of her bracelets, such as the 18k gold-thread hammered and “Diane” bracelets with their robust cotton fasteners. The “Seven” bracelets send me straight back to my childhood—they are my madeleines de Proust. Her stoneless gold rings work so well as a set. And lastly don’t miss her beautiful and more intricate sautoir necklaces and her stylish earrings (i.e: “Java” earrings.)
While her prices depend on the fluctuation in the prices of precious metals, her jewelry is always very reasonably priced. You might easily walk by her shop, find yourself wanting to see more, enter the place, fall in love with one of her pieces and buy one on a whim.
Emmanuelle Zysman works in the back of her store, all her jewelry is cast, assembled and set in Paris. Her reliable customer service offers a lifetime warranty to maintain, repair or bring your jewelry back to life.
The store also sells accessories such as the glamorous leather lamé pouch or the python glasses case, silk headscarves, wool or mohair scarves, and the timeless, fashionable and fabulous Maison Fabre gloves (check out the Steve McQueen pair…)

Yves Gratas: classic and fashionable jewelry.

Yves Gratas: classic and fashionable jewelry.

Yves Gratas’ jewelry is made out of gold (18 carat), and precious or semi-precious stones such as diamonds, sapphires, amethysts, tourmaline or pearls. He is the only jewelry maker in Paris who uses the mise en couleur de l’or, a technique that consists of extracting the silver and copper from the surface of the gold metal, in order to reveal the true color of the gold. Another one of his trademarks is to mount some of the stones upside down in order to get a rougher and less symmetrical piece of jewelry. His costume jewelry is big in the fashion world, he has worked for Agnès B., François Girbaud and Thierry Mugler. Yves Gratas works from his workshop/boutique on rue Oberkampf and specializes in made-to-order jewelry. His jewelry is timeless, classic, elegant and yet very contemporary.

Stéphane Ravel’s jewelry at Françoise Montague’s shop: Jewelry for the fashion world.

Stéphane Ravel’s jewelry at Françoise Montague’s shop: Jewelry for the fashion world.

Vintage, made-to-order and costume jewelry are the specialty of jewelry designer Stéphane Ravel. He has worked for fashion houses Nina Ricci and Franck & Fils. His anemone brooch is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry in her store. It’s one of his staple designs. I could see my 80-year-old grandmother wearing it as well as my 21-year-old cousin. They come in several sizes and many bright colors and the biggest one will run you around 65€. Unfortunately, the other store rue de Ponthieu had to be closed because of fire.

Satellite jewelry stores in Paris

Satellite jewelry stores in Paris

It all started when ethnologist Sandrine Dulon traveled the world with a friend and came back with a collection of antique jewelry, semi-precious stones and other inspiring materials. First Sandrine Dulon made jewelry for her friends, then her work became increasingly popular and finally she met the person who launched her career: French Elle Magazine fashion editor fell in love with the Satellite Spring and Summer collection of 1988 and it made the cover of the magazine’s January Special Fashion issue of that year. Satellite’s new collections are bi-annual and always reflect diverse cultural influences.
