Mexi&Co. is located in Paris’ Latin quarter and is definitely the place to visit if in need of canned or dried Mexican goods such as Serrano peppers, tomatillos, masa (cornmeal), nopales (prickly pear cactus pads), dried chili pods, hot sauce, chipotle, and tortilla chips (8€—at least it’s a big bag) or frozen corn tortillas (in a pack of 200). Mexi&Co. has enough on its shelves to help you cook a very decent Mexican meal, which is unquestionably a plus in a city like Paris where good (and cheap) Mexican restaurants are desperately lacking. Mexi&Co. is also a restaurant (I won’t talk about their food since I haven’t eaten there yet) and a catering company. Their menu offers classic items such as chips and salsa, guacamole, quesadillas, nachos and burritos. If you are looking for good tequila such as Patrón while in Paris (and you don’t mind paying twice it’s U.S price!) I know of two places where to find it: Izrael in the Marais and Publicis Drugstore’s Epicerie on the Champs-Elysées.

One of Paris’ most important archeological remains of the Gallo-Roman era, les Arènes de Lutèce was built in the first century AD. It is believed that this amphitheater could seat up to 17000 spectators and was the stage for both theater and gladiatorial combat. After the barbaric invasions which took place during the 3rd century AD, the arena became a cemetery that was later filled in completely. It wasn’t until 1869, during the opening of Rue Monge, that the arena was discovered. Without the determination of Victor Hugo and a few others to save it from destruction, les Arènes de Lutèce might have fallen forever into oblivion!

Whether you go there for a pétanque game, to sunbath, draw, practice your ball-juggling, eat or rest, there will always be room for you to sit down and contemplate how much time has passed while enjoying a moment of peace in the heart of a busy city. Also, just like in all of Paris’ parks there’s free Wi-Fi at les Arènes de Lutèce.

The restaurant has only 4 tables (2 for two and 2 for four)! You can make a reservation if you want to make sure you have a table.
Recently a few changes have been made to the menu and the prices went up a bit, but the quality is the same: top of the line. Make sure you order the Bo Bun—the best I’ve had so far (12€), the summer roll (beef roll for 12€) the Vietnamese pork crêpes (8€) and the ravioli (awesome).

Le Panthéon, Soufflot’s masterpiece, was ordered by King Louis XV as a dedication to Sainte Geneviève, the patron saint of Paris. The king attributed his recovery from illness to prayers made to Sainte Geneviève. He set the first stone in the ground in 1764. In 1791 the basilica was turned into the national Pantheon, but was still used as a place of Christian worship during the 19th century. It wasn’t until 1885, on the occasion of Victor Hugo’s funeral, that the Pantheon became a secular place for good, devoted to the memory of the nation’s great men.

The tour of the crypt where Hugo rests (along with Voltaire, Rousseau, Dumas & Marie Curie to name a few) is accessible through the back of the Panthéon. For a sweeping view of Paris climb the stairs to the external colonnade at the base of the dome (access by guided tour only, from April to October, at 2.30pm and 4pm).

After touring the dome, staring at Foucault’s pendulum or wandering the many galleries in the crypt, you can head for a drink at Le Rostand just a few blocks away towards the Jardins du Luxembourg.
