“Sophie Ristelhueber (French, b. 1949) traveled to Kuwait at the end of the Gulf War to record the physical traces of the conflict. Entitled Fait or Fact, the resulting series of photographs—aerial and ground-level, in color and black-and-white—depicts trenches and tank tracks, bomb craters, dense smoke rising from blazing oil wells, battle detritus scattered in the sand. Ristelhueber hangs the large prints in an expansive grid that at first reads as a beautiful abstract field, then reveals itself to be a reconstitution of the battlefield on the gallery wall.”
The series “Beyrouth”, “Vulaines” and “Eleven Blowups” as well as two videos made for this show, are also exhibited at the Jeu de Paume until March 22, 2009.

It all started in Seattle with Robin Pecknold and Skye Skjelset. They are now five and are called Fleet Foxes. “Baroque harmonic pop jams” is how they describe their music. Good lyrics, musical maturity and beautiful vocal harmonies have propelled the band onto the international scene in just a couple years. They played at the SXSW festival in March 2008, released internationally their second EPSun Giant a month later in April, and their debut full length album Fleet Foxes came out in June that same year. At the end of 2008 Fleet Foxes was rated album of the year by Billboard’s Critic’s Choice. Fleet Foxes is currently touring and their UK shows, as well as the San Francisco ones are sold out. But at la Cigale in Paris there’s still some room left. Run, rush, race!
