Yves Saint Laurent retrospective at the Petit Palais in Paris.

Organized by the Fondation Pierre Berger and the Petit Palais - Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, this is the first comprehensive retrospective of Yves Saint Laurent’s work. 307 pieces taken from his haute couture and prêt-à-porter collections, ranging from his early days at Dior in 1958 to his final collection of evening gowns in 2002, will be on display. Films and photographs illustrating Yves Saint Laurent’s 40 years of creation within its historical context will complete this exhibition.

“Conceived as a work in sound and vision, Personnes takes up a new theme in Boltanski’s work, building on his earlier explorations of the limits of human existence and the vital dimension of memory : the question of fate, and the ineluctability of death. Personnes transforms the entire Nave of the Grand Palais through the creation of a coherent, intensely moving installation conceived as a gigantic animated tableau. Personnes is a one-off, ephemeral work. In accordance with the artist’s wishes, the components of the piece will all be recycled at the end of the exhibition.”

William Blake retrospective at the Petit Palais in Paris

This is France’s first William Blake retrospective since 1947. Major museums such as the British Museum, the Tate Britain, the National Gallery of Scotland, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Louvre Museum, as well as private collectors, have lent their works for this retrospective. The show gathers over 150 pieces by William Blake, including drawings, paintings, etchings and books. There’s also a little treat a the end of the show signed by Francis Bacon.

Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s art collection at the Grand Palais in Paris

The legendary collection of Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé will be open to the public for three days at the Grand Palais before it is auctioned off. Impressionist and modern paintings (Picasso, Matisse, Mondrian, Léger, Cézanne, Duchamp…), old masters’ paintings (Ingres, Géricault…) and drawings, 19th century paintings, silver miniatures and objects of virtue, 20th century furniture and decorative arts, sculptures and works of arts, over seven hundred pieces gathered by the two men over 50 years will be shown at the Grand Palais. This is a first in the history of the Grand Palais’ exhibition program. The proceeds from the auction, estimated between €200 million and €300 million, will go to the Pierre Bergé -Yves Saint Laurent Foundation to help the AIDS medical research.

Candy Clash in Paris at Showcase—Pont Alexandre III

Sometimes I like French singers’ accent when they sing in English. Sometimes it’s really cute. It’s the case here; when French band Candy Clash sings in English it’s lovely. Clement’s accent makes my heart melt a little. Candy Clash will be playing sous le Pont Alexandre III at Showcase. Under the bridge that is. Lots of great 80’s synthesizer sounds mixed with a heavy influence of new wave, there new 79 EP is out and sounds really promising!

Built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle (World Expo), this is Paris’ first municipal museum. It houses a collection of art spanning from the Antiquity to the early 20th century. The artwork is displayed as to reveal the influence of prominent artistic movements through time and the diversity of aesthetic trends. Free permanent collection and free access to the garden and café-restaurant Le Jardin du Petit Palais. There is an entrance fee for the temporary exhibitions. Free permanent collection.

Le Jardin du Petit Palais: the Petit Palais museum’s café.

Here’s a café with a lovely terrace overlooking a lush patio, where you can have a bite at any time during the museum’s opening hours. It serves breakfast and lunch. It is open to anyone, with or without visiting the museum. If you want to get away from the busy avenue of the Champs-Elysées, and relax while enjoying free Wi-Fi, this is the perfect spot. It is right across the street from the Grand Palais and a stone’s throw away from the Seine river. Entrance to the Jardin du Petit Palais is through the mosaic-tiled garden.
